Day 144/366 – LAIKA/house Shoe Wednesday #11. David Rowe, Systems Support Manager.
Today marks LAIKA/house Shoe Wednesday #11! “LAIKA/house is a world-renowned commercial animation studio located in Portland, OR. I captured 14 kicks and 14 stories in 2 hours on a Shoe Wednesday with the help of Greg from Greg Helton Photography. The plan is to feature one LAIKAn every Wednesday for a total of 14 weeks. I truly believe you can tell a lot about a person by the kicks on their feet…so I’m excited to share what I found on the inside among this creative bunch!”
Name: David ‘Dave’ Rowe
Pictured with his Rhodesian Ridgeback, Moby, who he adopted from the Oregon Humane Society. They are very brave dogs in the wild; they hold their ground while hunting lions! Moby has proved himself to be a true gem, which is why he’s allowed to tag along with his dad to work.
Role @ LAIKA/house: Systems Support Manager. Dave joined the company in 2001. He began his animation career in 1990 at Disney Studios. He currently boasts over 21 feature film credits and brings a wealth of animation experience influenced by technology!
Kicks on Dave’s feet: Nike Dunk High ‘Coralines’
~1,000 pairs of these special sneakers were created in association with LAIKA’s stop-motion film, Coraline. Dave received his as a gift around the debut of the film in 2009. First thing he did in them? Mow the lawn. Everyone thought he was crazy. Dave says they are very well crafted; he wears them 2-3 times a week. 3 out of the 4 buttons have gone missing to the wind. These kicks have made him realize that people really do pay attention to the shoes on your feet. He’s often asked: “You wear those??”
Did you know? Dave has owned over 45 cars in his life. His favorite so far is his 1963 Mercury Meteor S33. He’s the second owner and it’s practically brand new inside and out. Dave enjoys playing the guitar and piano; he is a key player on the Laikapella group at work!
Dave is super grateful for everything around him and reminds himself every day…“Be thankful for what you have!” Thanks for sharing, Ninja Dave! 🙂
I have met 4 out of ~1000 people who own the Coralines (including myself). Any other proud owners out there??
