Day 173/366 – U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials Hammer Throw + Chuck Taylors + Cheeseburger.
*Today at the Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, OR*
Top hammer throw athletes in the U.S. contend for a spot in the U.S. Olympic Track & Field team!
According to the hammer throw’s official website: the event has been a fixture at the Olympics since 1990. Skilled athletes throw a heavy metal ball attached to a wire. Whoever can throw the ball the farthest…WINS! The men’s hammer weighs 16 pounds and is almost 4 feet long; the women’s hammer is 8.8 pounds and is ¾ of an inch shorter than the men’s hammer. Hammer throwers are surrounded by netting and must execute their throws from inside a 7-foot wide circle. They swing the hammer around their heads a few times in order to gain momentum and then spinnnnn within the circle and THROW!
I thoroughly enjoyed watching while enjoying a delicious complimentary lunch. Grateful. 🙂
